Setting Fitness Goals & Creating Habit Stacks

The start of a new year is an exciting time for setting intentions and embracing opportunities for growth. If improving your health and fitness is on your list, you're in the right place! Let’s talk about how to set meaningful goals and create habits that stick.


Set SMART Goals

When it comes to fitness, setting SMART goals is your secret weapon:

  • Specific: Define exactly what you want to achieve. Instead of saying, "I want to get fit," say, "I want to run 5K in under 30 minutes."

  • Measurable: Use numbers or milestones to track your progress. For instance, aim to work out 3 times per week.

  • Achievable: Set goals that challenge you but remain realistic.

  • Relevant: Align your fitness goals with your overall health aspirations.

  • Time-bound: Create a deadline to maintain focus, such as achieving your goal within 3 months.


Break Goals into Habits

Big goals can feel overwhelming, but breaking them into smaller habits makes them manageable and achievable. This is where habit stacking comes in – linking a new habit to an existing one. For example:

  • After brushing your teeth, do 10 push-ups.

  • While waiting for your coffee to brew, stretch for 5 minutes.

By pairing new habits with established routines, you’ll find it easier to make them part of your daily life.
